Accomplished all-around musician Joe Bagale rides a groovy, nostalgic wave under the moniker Otis McDonald.
“Otis McDonald” was originally the title of a song Bagale created as a commissioned artist for YouTube’s free audio library. In an interview by the San Francisco Chronicle, Bagale explains the reason behind the song title, stating, “because part of it reminded me of ‘Strawberry Letter 23’ by Shuggie Otis, and when I came to the chorus I was trying to write something I thought would be cool for Michael McDonald,” Bagale says. “My wife was laughing and said, ‘You should use that for a band name.’”
The Otis McDonald catalog consists of songs that artfully incorporate the glorious sounds of the past; from 90’s boom bap percussion, to 80’s synths, and 70’s soul and funk, with a vibe that is undeniably modern and fresh.
